SMOKE- & VAPOR-FREE BLOOMSDAY
Since 2005, Bloomsday has been an official smoke-free event. This means that the event is free from tobacco and marijuana smoke and vaping of any substance.Ā Bloomsday is committed to setting a positive example in our community and to underscore the importance of a smoke-free environment for good health.
In a continued commitment to a smoke-free environment we ask entrants, family, friends, and spectators to support this effortāduring Bloomsday weekend activities and along the race course.
As a health and fitness event, Bloomsday has always proudly discouraged the use of tobacco products. Inhaling smoke works against cardiovascular fitness. Additionally, secondhand smokeāwhich contains more than 40 known carcinogensācan have devastating effects on non-smokers. Emerging research on vaping devices indicates that the vapor produced also contains harmful chemicals.
Nearly 10,000 Bloomsday entrants are youth under age 18. Studies have shown that providing young people with a positive environment, free from tobacco use, will greatly reduce the prevalence of youth smoking.
Thank you for your understanding and support of this important Bloomsday policy.
