BLOOMSDAY ORDERS 8,000 ADDITIONAL “STANDS WITH BOSTON” BRACELETS FOR VOLUNTEERS AND SAFETY PERSONNEL

Spokane, WA— On April 18th Bloomsday organizers announced that participants in Spokane’s annual rite of spring will receive a lilac-colored bracelet etched with the phrase “Bloomsday Stands With Boston” to wear during the run on May 5th. Initially, 50,000 bracelets were purchased. Today, Bloomsday officials are pleased to announce that an additional 8,000 bracelets have been ordered for distribution to the volunteers who give thousands of hours to make Bloomsday happen, and to the police, fire and medical personnel who help ensure Bloomsday’s safety and success.
The response to the bracelets has been overwhelmingly positive and it became evident that Bloomsday’s “moving tribute” to Boston was something volunteers and safety personnel should participate in.
“Bloomsday is an event driven by volunteers,” said Steven Jones, President of the Lilac Bloomsday Association. “Many of our volunteers, like the police, fire and medical crews providing support on race day, do not get the opportunity to participate in the run itself. These people are an integral part of Bloomsday and deserve to have the “Bloomsday Stands With Boston” bracelets to show their support for Boston, the Boston victims, and the community spirit of Bloomsday in light of the tragedy at the marathon.”
Each year about 5,000 volunteers help organize and put on the Bloomsday race. Bloomsday participants, volunteers and safety personnel are encouraged to wear their bracelets on race day.
Anyone still wanting to sign up to walk or run this year’s Bloomsday can enter online until Sunday, April 28th.After the 28th, late entrants will need to wait until Bloomsday weekend to sign up. Late registration will be available during normal Check-In hours at the Convention Center—Friday, May 3rd, from 11:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 4th from 9:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Race entry is NOT available on Sunday, May 5th.
