Spokane, WAâBloomsday runners, joggers and walkers will be able to enjoy 28 different performers along the 7.46-mile route this year, an increase of forty percent over the number of entertainers last year.
Â
âItâs great to see how this facet of Bloomsday has grown over the last four years,â said Dori Robertson, Bloomsdayâs Board member responsible for scheduling bands and other performers. âEvery year our participants are more and more interested in which bands, dancers and other performers will be there on race day, and that interest is reflected in the increasing number of votes cast afterward in the Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest.â
Â
This yearâs on-course entertainment includes music to please a variety of tastes, including country & western, classic rock, oldies, blues, Christian, bluegrass, folk and punk. Entertainers also include belly dancers, a precision bucket drum corps, cheerleaders, Renaissance performers and Elvis impersonator âAccordion Joe,â who will be in his traditional location at the beginning of the first downhill on the course. Country soloist Breanna Abell, winner of last yearâs Best Bloomsday Entertainer contest, will be back to defend her title, performing on Broadway a short distance from the finish line.
Â
Bloomsday entrants will be able to vote for their favorite performers by logging on to www.bloomsdayrun.org after the race, and prizes of $500, $300, and $150 will be awarded to the winning entertainers.
Â
