Spokane, WAâWith nearly two months left before the 29th running of the Lilac Bloomsday Run, the Corporate Cup Competition is filled to capacity, and the Trade Show isnât far behind. Over 250 teams have signed up for the Corporate Cup Competition, and no additional teams are being accepted. And unless they act quickly, vendors interested in renting booth space at the Trade Show will have to wait until Bloomsday 2006.
"Weâre running about a week ahead of last year for sign-ups for both the Coprorate Cup and the Trade Show," said Don Kardong, Bloomsday Race Director. "I think the warm weather this year has gotten people thinking about Bloomsday earlier than usual."
For the second year, teams lucky enough to have signed up for the Corporate Cup will be entered in the "Best Team Name" contest. A panel of judges that includes Spokane Mayor Jim West, City Council President Dennis Hession, and Bloomsday Race Director Don Kardong, will review the names and decide which ones demonstrate the most creativity in combining running or fitness with the nature of the team's business. Last yearâs winners were Inland Vascular Institute (âWeâro So Veinâ), Southwest Airlines (âCool Your Jetsâ), and Spokane Teacherâs Credit Union (âCU at the Finish Lineâ). This yearâs top three will be announced in the Corporate Cup results section of the Bloomsday Souvenir Results Booklet.
For individual Bloomies, there's a little over a month left to sign up for this year's event for the on-time fee of $10.00. Entry forms are available at area Washington Trust Banks, Safeway Stores, Snyderâs Bakery Outlets, Premera Blue Cross, Holy Family Hospital and Sacred Heart Medical Center. Runners can also sign up at Gart Sports' two local stores until 9:00 pm on the deadline day, April 12th. Mail entries must be postmarked by April 12 to avoid the late entry fee of $25.00.
