Calling all Entertainers! Bloomsday organizers seek performers for on-course entertainment

Thursday, January 20, 2005

Spokane, WA—There may be snow and ice on the course, but Bloomsday organizers are already hard at work placing bands along the route of the 2005 Lilac Bloomsday Run—at least on paper. Entertainers who would like to perform along the 7-1/2-mile course on May 1 should fill out an application and return it to the Bloomsday office by Thursday, February 10.

“We had a great launch of our Top Bloomsday Performer contest last year,” said Bloomsday Course Entertainment Director Dori Robertson. “Feedback from entrants was very positive, so this year we’ll place even more entertainers along the route. We’ll also give cash awards of $500, $300 and $150 to top performers, as well as gift certificates supplied by downtown businesses.”

Anyone with a song to sing, dance to perform, or any other sort of entertainment to share on race day is invited to apply. Forms are available at the Bloomsday office (1610 W. Riverside), online (www.bloomsdayrun.org) or by contacting the Bloomsday office (838-1579).

Organizers will review applications and select performers by March 1 for the available spaces along the course. Performers must be officially signed up to be eligible to win the 2005 Bloomsday Top Performer award, which will be determined by race entrants who log on and vote after the race. Last year’s winners were the performing troupe Red Hot Mamas, followed by country music band Dusty and classic rockers PF Flyers.

For non-performers, there's a little over a week left to have a chance for a trip for two to the Carlsbad 5000 in southern California. All entrants who sign up online during January at www.bloomsdayrun.org will be eligible to win the trip.
