Spokane, WA—After learning how important entertainment is to participants, Bloomsday organizers have issued an open invitation to area performers to come sing, dance, and otherwise entertain the 50,000 runners, joggers, and walkers expected on Sunday, May 2. Entertainment of all kinds is encouraged, with race participants voting after the race for their favorite.

"The study that Robinson Research did for us this year showed clearly how important entertainment along the course is," said Al Odenthal, president of the Lilac Bloomsday Association. "As a result, we're working harder than ever to present more fun and energy along the seven-and-a-half mile route."

Anyone with a song to sing, dance to perform, or any other sort of entertainment to share on race day is invited to fill out a form and return it to the Bloomsday office at 1610 W. Riverside before 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 2. Forms are available at the Bloomsday office (1610 W. Riverside), online (www.bloomsdayrun.org) or by contacting Bloomsday organizers (838-1579, Karen). Organizers will review applications and select performers by April 9 for the available spaces along the course. Performers must be officially signed up to be eligible to win the 2004 Bloomsday Top Performer award, which will be determined by race entrants who log on and vote after the race at www.bloomsdayrun.org.

For non-performers, there's a little over a month left to sign up online for this year's event for the on-time fee of $10.00, which is one of the lowest fees in the nation for a major running event. Mail-in entry forms are available online and at area US Banks, Safeway Stores, Snyder Bakery Outlets, Premera Blue Cross, Holy Family Hospital and Sacred Heart Medical Center. Runners can also sign up at Gart Sports' two local stores until 9:00 pm on the deadline day, April 13th. Mail entries must be postmarked by April 13 to avoid the late entry fee of $25.00.
